Welcome to Chapter 20 of Journey through the Scriptures. In this chapter, we embark on a breathtaking journey as we explore the profound revelations of the new heaven and new earth. The book of Revelation, written by the apostle John, reveals to us the glorious vision of a transformed creation, where God’s eternal dwelling will be with His redeemed people. Let us delve into the depths of this divine revelation with awe and anticipation, as we witness the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan.
Revelation 21-22 unveils the majestic picture of the new creation. John, in his visionary account, describes the new heaven and new earth, where sin, sorrow, and death have no place. In Revelation 21:3, we hear the triumphant proclamation, “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” This is the fulfillment of God’s long-standing desire to dwell intimately with His people, establishing an eternal fellowship that knows no bounds.
The new heaven and new earth will be marked by the absence of pain, tears, and mourning. In Revelation 21:4, John declares, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” It is a realm where righteousness dwells, and the glory of God illuminates everything. It is a place of unending joy, peace, and harmony.
As we contemplate the new heaven and new earth, let us hold fast to the hope and promise it represents. The apostle Paul encourages us in Romans 8:18, “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” This future reality should inspire us to live with an eternal perspective, knowing that our labor in the Lord is not in vain.
In our next chapter, Chapter 21, we will explore the momentous event of the catching away of the Church, often referred to as the rapture. Join me as we examine the biblical passages in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:51-58, which provide us with insights into this extraordinary event. Let us find encouragement and inspiration in living a life of readiness, eagerly anticipating the glorious reunion with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
